The cost of operating a commercial truck rose to a record $2.27 per mile last year, including 4.6 cents per mile in tire costs, according to a recent ATRI report. Every mile increases tire wear, driving up replacement costs.  

Proactive tire management is crucial to not only controlling these rising costs but also improving fleet safety and operational efficiency. 

Tire pressure monitoring and automatic tire inflation systems give fleets greater control over their tire program and have the potential to ease maintenance costs and reduce fuel consumption. The latest advances in technology, however, represent a new phase in tire management for fleets. With the ability to remotely monitor tread wear, dynamically change pressure settings and even predict repair or replacement needs, fleets can use the data they collect to radically transform their operations.
