37 Drivers Ask FMCSA for Vision Waiver

Thirty-seven drivers have asked federal regulators to allow them to operate commercial trucks despite eye impairments, regulators announced June 16.

The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration is asking the public to comment on the drivers’ request by July 18. The following day, FMCSA intends to grant the exemptions.

The drivers have provided the agency medical documents that verify their competence in driving a truck with one eye. Their impairments include amblyopia, cataracts and corneal scars.

Information on how to comment on the matter is found in the Federal Register.
