Aasche Adds To Its Business

SHANNON, Ill — Aasche Transportation Services continues to add to its waste hauling business.

Specialty Transportation Services, a subsidiary of Aasche based in Portage, Ind., acquired assets of JR Investments related to solid waste transport services in Northwest Indiana. The purchase price was not disclosed, but included 50,000 shares of Aasche common stock, company officials said.

STS assumed a three-year contract with Allied Waste Industries that is expected to generate revenue of $1 million annually.

STS President Gary I. Goldberg said the asset purchase includes a full service terminal and maintenance shop in Merriville, Ind., that will be used as a base to serve the Chicago market.

STS recently won a contract to transport municipal solid waste for Meyer Waste System and Reliable Disposal from Chesterton, Ind., to a landfill in Three Oaks, Mich.

Also last week, STS announced two contracts to haul waste to landfills in Tennessee, Kentucky and Mississippi.

STS now operates a fleet of 600 trucks and maintains 18 terminals nationwide. Aasche is also the parent of refrigerated carriers Asche Transfer and AG Carriers.
