A.D. Transport Aims for Quality

When Ford Motor Co. issued a mandate that all of its suppliers comply with ISO 9002, an international standard for quality, A.D. Transport Express had little choice but to go along with the program. After all, Ford was the $30 million carrier’s largest customer.

Gary Percy, president of the company in Canton, Mich., took the better part of a year and spent more than $200,000 to implement the ISO-9002 standard. “We took it very seriously,” he said.

A.D. Transport was registered as an ISO-9002 company in October 1997. The next year, the company became the first, and so far the only, carrier to receive Ford’s Q1 award, signifying that it met additional quality requirements for expedited truckload service.

Although costly and time-consuming, Percy said the investment has paid off handsomely for his company.
