ALK Offers Enhanced PC Miler
The offering from ALK, Princeton, N.J., also has congestion and traffic forecast information to provide optimal routes.
As part of its PC Miler 25 line, ALK said it is working with Inrix, Kirkland, Wash., which provides traffic information and historical speed data that can be obtained for more than 1 million miles of U.S. and Canadian highways.
The traffic data are being provided free of charge until ALK introduces its PC Miler 26 product next year, the company said.
“ALK is pleased to be the first and only provider of enhanced truck-specific route planning and mapping capabilities based on real-time and historical North American traffic data,” said Craig Fiander, vice president of marketing at ALK Technologies. “Realistic transit times and [estimated times of arrival] are essential for optimization, customer service, compliance with hours-of-service rules, and pricing decisions.”
Also included in the PC Miler 25 product is toll calculation costs for vehicles of all sizes, taking into account travel date, vehicle weight, configuration and toll discounts, where applicable.
Another part of the product is a geofence that is meant to steer drivers away from certain areas and keep them on particular routes.
It also incorporates the latest road construction and truck restrictions, such as restrictions on height, width and weight. The routing product also includes U.S., Canadian and Mexican postal code information.
