American Idol Winner Taylor Hicks to Perform at Grand Opening of Alabama Intermodal Facility
Alabama native Taylor Hicks will perform at the grand opening celebration of the Birmingham Intermodal Facility downtown.
The American Idol winner will be joined by a few surprise guests at the event set for 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 23, according to the Birmingham Jefferson County Transit Authority. The event will also feature food and tours of the new facility.
The celebration will take place at 1801 Morris Ave. The transportation hub stretches three blocks along Morris Avenue between 17th and 19th streets.
“We wanted a facility that would make the community proud,” BJCTA Executive Director Barbara Murdock said.
The three-block Birmingham Intermodal Facility is located along Morris Avenue between 17th and 19th streets. A nearly 300 space parking lot for travelers, which is not completed yet, will be located between 16th and 17th streets.
MAX Transit’s downtown central station and Olivia’s Transit Cafe located next door opened over the summer.
The newest section of the facility to open, includes the Amtrak station, which opened Jan. 30, and Greyhound, which will begin operating Feb. 21. BJCTA Administrative offices and a police substation are also located there.
“We are thrilled to continue providing service to the local community through our new location in the Birmingham Intermodal facility,” said Emma Gray, Regional Manager of Customer Experience, Greyhound Lines, Inc. “Our thanks goes out to the Birmingham Jefferson County Transit Authority for including us on this project.”
Morris Avenue in front of the Intermodal Facility is also open.
