ATA Fills General Counsel Post

American Trucking Associations named David S. Addington general counsel at the organization.

he appointment fills a key position under a new ATA structure that emphasizes three areas — advocacy, legal and business.

Advocacy is headed by chief of staff Daniel F. McCormack, and business is headed by chief financial officer David Barefoot.

Addington is a partner in the law firm of Holland and Knight in Washington, D.C. He has extensive experience on Capitol Hill and is a former general counsel with the Department of Defense.



“His impressive range of experience will be a major asset to us as we move forward on the issues facing the trucking industry,” ATA President Walter B. McCormick Jr. said.

A native of Washington, D.C., and a graduate of Duke University School of Law, Addington was assistant general counsel at the Central Intelligence Agency and served on the House Intelligence and Foreign Affairs committees. He served as a legislative aide to President Reagan from 1987 until 1989.

From 1994 to 1997, Addington was president of the Alliance for American Leadership, a political action committee formed to support Republican candidates.
