ATA Honors Four With ‘Good Stuff’ Awards

ORLANDO, Fla. — American Trucking Associations honored a trucking company, a telematics provider and two state trucking associations for their efforts to promote a positive image of the industry.

Diversified Transfer and Storage, Omnitracs Inc., the Colorado Motor Carriers Association and the Nevada Trucking Association all received the Mike Russell “Good Stuff” Trucking Image Award during the Management Conference & Exhibition here.

“These groups are being honored for their efforts to bolster trucking’s prestige in this country,” ATA President Bill Graves said.

DTS “is in the forefront of every event that the Montana Motor Carrier Association promotes,” Graves said Oct. 21. DTS, based in Billings, Mont., leads a “Share the Road” event for teenagers every summer to teach them how to safely drive around large trucks.

DTS also participates in charitable organizations and frequently meets with policy and business leaders to bolster the trucking industry’s image, Graves said.

Omnitracs was awarded for its recent work to promote electronic logging devices.

“ELDs exist amid a complex landscape of rulemaking, mandate implementation, technical requirements and certification, and Omnitracs was able to provide reliable, current and easily understandable information to drivers, fleets and policymakers,” Graves said.

Likewise, CMCA runs a number of public-affairs campaigns centered on safety and industry image, including an annual campaign to remind truckers to use tire chains in snowy weather, ATA said.

NTA’s campaigns, meanwhile, “are centered around forming partnerships to showcase trucking,” Graves said. NTA focuses on state policymakers but also other community and business leaders.

The award is named in honor of the late Mike Russell, the former ATA vice president of public affairs. It is sponsored by TMW Systems.
