ATA Image Trailer Visits Association’s Headquarters
ARLINGTON, Va. — American Trucking Associations’ image trailer visited ATA headquarters in late April before rolling to the U.S. Capitol for the Motor & Equipment Manufacturers Association’s Ride ’n’ Drive event for federal officials, staff and the public.
Jerry Charron, a driver for Con-way Freight in St. Johnsbury, Vt.; Jim Gallagher, a linehaul driver for YRC Worldwide in Buffalo, N.Y.; and Steve Fields, a driver for YRC Worldwide in Kansas City, Mo., are captains of America’s Road Team, the group of drivers selected for two-year tours to explain truck driving and the industry’s commitment to public safety.
ATA’s image trailer, donated to ATA by GE Trailer Fleet Services, has traveled the country since March 2009, visiting state capitols, high schools, community events, industry conventions and other occasions.
ATA’s Share the Road trailer, with more captains of America’s Road Team explaining how to drive safely around tractor-trailers, has been on tour for more than three years. The safety program, sponsored by Mack Trucks and Michelin North America, has reached the public for more than 20 years.
The 53-foot image trailer features a mobile conference room with seven projection screens, educational displays and room for interactive trucking demonstrations. A simulator shows some of the challenges of safely driving a tractor-trailer. The trailer is pulled by a Volvo VN780 tractor, donated by Volvo Trucks North America.
