ATA Organizations: Profiles in Change

The restructuring of American Trucking Associations has resulted in several changes in the makeup of the federation over the past year.

At its annual management conference in Orlando, Fla., the ATA board of directors is expected to give the green light to the establishment of a new organization to represent the interests of carriers that haul goods for the federal government.

The Government Traffic Services Conference would respond to carrier concerns over new payment rules and likely incorporate the existing Munitions Carriers Conference, according to Paul T. Stalknecht, senior vice president of federation relations for ATA.

In May, the National Magazine, Book and Film Carriers Conference disaffiliated with ATA, a move Stalknecht said was prompted by a divergence of interests.
