In an attempt to heal a rift with a key lawmaker, American Trucking Associations President Walter McCormick met Jan. 28 with Rep. Frank Wolf (R-Va.), chairman of the House Transportation Appropriations Subcommittee.

The brief meeting in Wolf’s Capitol Hill office was requested by McCormick to clear the air before a scheduled Feb. 23 subcommittee hearing on transportation safety.

Wolf has denounced ATA several times since the organization led an effort in October to scuttle his proposal to transfer jurisdiction over truck safety from the Federal Highway Administration to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. The lawmaker plans to reintroduce his proposal this week and will likely discuss it at the hearing.
