ATA Recruits TMC Members

Members of The Maintenance Council of American Trucking Associations are the target of a recruiting drive by ATA.

TMC members whose employers do not belong to ATA have until Jan. 1, 2001 to join the parent organization or lose eligibility to be part of the educational and standard-setting group. The deadline was set by ATA in 1998 as part of its restructuring. Previously, carriers could belong to a council without joining ATA, leading to confusion between ATA and council services.

ATA restricted participation in its five other educational councils to members in January 1999. In exchange, separate dues for councils were eliminated. ATA carrier members were given one free seat on each council, including TMC. Supplier members were allowed one free seat in the council of their choice.

Integration of TMC was delayed until 2001 to forestall a loss of membership and revenue in the council.
