During National Sleep Awareness Week, March 29 to April 4, American Trucking Associations called on the Department of Transportation to update the 60-year-old hours-of-service regulations that set amount of time truck drivers can spend behind the wheel.

ATA President Walter B. McCormick Jr. said the current rules are not based on sound science, are inconsistent with the metabolism of the human body and do not fight fatigue.

National Sleep Awareness Week is held to educate people about the benefits of adequate sleep and the serious health and safety consequences of sleep deprivation.
