ATA Selects America's Road Team

American Trucking Associations has selected its best of the best of the trucking world — the 1999 America’s Road Team captains.

ATA president Walter B. McCormick Jr. announced this year’s Road Team at the association’s Alexandria, Va. headquarters. "These truck drivers represent the finest in the industry," he said. "Their safety records are exemplary and their commitment to professionalism and community are unsurpassed."

All told, the 12 Road Team captains have logged 21 million accident-free miles and share 247 years of driving experience.

The Road Team was narrowed down by a panel of judges from a pool of over 2000 drivers nominated by trucking companies throughout the country. The finalists were selected for their safe driving records, commitment to the industry, community involvement and their enthusiasm.

During their 18-month terms, the captains will travel throughout the country promoting a safe and positive image of the industry and teaching the public how to drive safely alongside truckers.

This is the 13th year for ATA’s Road Team program, which is funded by a grant from the ATA foundation.
