ATA's Intermodal CFO

American Trucking Associations recruited a senior executive of the Association of American Railroads to be its new senior vice president and chief financial officer. AAR Executive Vice President David B. Barefoot will begin his new job in early December.

As CFO, Mr. Barefoot will supervise all facets of ATA’s finance and accounting operation. He will oversee the budget process, financial administration of pensions and benefits, investment portfolio and other financial services. He also will help define new and innovative business opportunities designed to grow the association and improve service to its members.

Mr. Barefoot’s hiring comes as ATA prepares its first budget under the new strategic plan adopted by its Executive Committee in August. His responsibilities will include helping to implement key components of the strategic plan, including the ongoing streamlining of ATA’s operations and the forging of a new business relationship with state trucking associations.

“We expect to profit immensely from Dave’s wealth of experience in finance and administration,” said ATA President Walter B. McCormick Jr. “He’s the perfect person to help us implement the strategic vision developed by our members — a lean, efficient ATA and a brand new, mutually beneficial business relationship with our state trucking associations.”

“Joining ATA is an exciting challenge,” Mr. Barefoot said. “I look forward to playing an integral role in reshaping and revitalizing ATA’s business and financial operations to better serve its members in the 21st century.”

At AAR, Mr. Barefoot oversaw financial and administrative management as the association underwent a series of budget and staff cuts. AAR’s restructuring was caused by shrinking membership as large railroads merged.
