Beverly Scott's NTSB Nomination Withdrawn

Beverly Scott’s nomination for the vacancy on the five-member National Transportation Safety Board was withdrawn Oct. 6.

President Obama withdrew Scott’s nomination at her request. Scott was general manager of the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority and the Massachusetts Department of Transportation Rail & Transit Administrator from 2012 until April.

Those tenures came to a tumultuous end when she announced her resignation in February in the wake of repeated service interruptions on the MBTA during Boston’s snowiest winter.

She had previously served as CEO and GM of the Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority from 2007 to 2012 after stints with transit agencies in Rhode Island, New Jersey, Washington, D.C., Sacramento, California, and New York City.

Scott, who had been expected to replace Mark Rosekind for a term expiring Dec. 31, 2019, has been a member of the National Infrastructure Advisory Council since 2011. Rosekind left to become administrator of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

The Boston Herald, quoting a White House spokesman, said that Scott has asked the president to withdraw her nomination for “personal reasons related to her family.”

Christopher Hart is the current NTSB chairman. Bella Dinh-Zarr is vice chairwoman. Robert Sumwalt and Earl Weener are the other members of the board. NTSB members must be confirmed by the Senate.
