Bill Bronrott to Be Named FMCSA Deputy

President Obama plans to name former Maryland legislator and trucking industry critic Bill Bronrott to be deputy administrator of the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration.

Bronrott, who in addition to serving in the Maryland House of Delegates, has also been a spokesman for the Truck Safety Coalition, an organization that represents Parents Against Tired Truckers and Citizens for Reliable and Safe Highways.

The coalition also has sued FMCSA multiple times in support of more stringent regulation of the trucking industry.

FMCSA Administrator Anne Ferro said Bronrott’s “extraordinary background and passionate commitment to transportation safety make him uniquely qualified to help us achieve our safety mission of reducing crashes with commercial vehicles and saving lives.”

Bronrott, slated to start at FMCSA on April 27, fills a post formerly held by David Hugel that has been vacant since the Obama administration took office.
