BTS Considers Changes to Way Flow of Goods Is Measured

The Bureau of Transportation Statistics is considering major changes in the way it measures the flow of goods and materials in the United States.

Deputy Director Rick Kowalewski said the agency is “exploring all options and alternatives” for its Commodity Flow Survey program.

The agency could expand and improve the survey or replace it with other forms of freight data collection, Kowalewski said last week.

A decision will be made “in a month or so,” Kowalewski said.
