Berkshire Hathaway, the firm owned by billionaire Warren Buffett, has increased its stake in Burlington Northern Santa Fe Corp., the second largest U.S. railroad, Bloomberg News reported.
Berkshire said in a regulatory that it bought 1.62 million more shares of the Fort Worth, Texas-based carrier, Bloomberg said Wednesday. Berkshire Hathaway now holds about 40.6 million of BNSF’s 360.8 million outstanding shares.
The company paid between $79.45 to $80.40 each for the BNSF shares, which it acquired in three separate transactions that took place Aug. 3, 6, and 7, Bloomberg reported.
Berkshire is the single largest BNSF stakeholder.
