Busy Schedule Takes Secretary Anthony Foxx to Massachusetts, New York, Virginia
With authorization for the highway trust fund set to expire July 31, Transportation Secretary Anthony Foxx will be making speeches in Massachusetts, New York and Virginia.
His first event occurs July 20 in Boston, where he will deliver keynote remarks at the National Council for Public Private Partnerships’ P3 Connect Conference. The event will contain analysis of the latest state and federal P3 policies, lessons learned from P3 programs, examinations of case studies, discussion of new and innovative P3 programs and trends facing the P3 industry.
Foxx will then travel to New York City for two events July 21. In the morning, he will participate in a panel discussion at The New York Times’ Cities for Tomorrow Conference on Sustainable Resilient Cities. In the afternoon, he will participate in another panel discussion, at New York University’s Rudin Center for Transportation and Policy Management, to discuss the impacts of transportation policies on economic mobility.
On July 22, Foxx will attend three events. At 9 a.m., he will highlight transportation challenges in America’s cities and advocate Congress passing the Grow America Act for the New York MOVES Conference at New York University.
“Failing to act before the Highway Trust Fund runs out is unacceptable — and unaffordable,” Foxx said when he unveiled the Grow America Act in April 2014. “This proposal offers the kind of job creation and certainty that the American people want and deserve.”
After the MOVES conference, he will attend the Virginians for High Speed Rail’s 21st Annual Transportation Luncheon in Richmond, where he will talk about needed investments in the Southeast passenger rail corridor.
Foxx will then join MARAD Administrator Paul Jaenichen, Virginia Gov.Terry McAuliffe, Virginia Secretary of Transportation Aubrey Layne, Norfolk Mayor Paul D. Fraim and other local officials to break ground on the North Gate/I-564 Connector Project. This will take place in Norfolk at 2:15 p.m.
