Canadian National Railway said it has opened a new intermodal facility in Chippewa Falls, Wis., to serve the upper Midwest, including the Minneapolis/St. Paul, Minn. area.
The new terminal is designed to offer new container shipping options for Wisconsin and Minnesota as it establishes the railroad’s first intermodal facility between Chicago and Winnipeg, Manitoba, a distance of about 700 miles by rail. Canadian National’s main line between those two cities doesn’t serve the Minneapolis/St. Paul area.
The Chippewa Falls facility is about 40 miles west of the railroad’s main line and about 100 miles east of Minneapolis/St. Paul.
The new terminal will be served twice weekly, with freight available on the fifth morning after departure from Vancouver and Prince Rupert, British Columbia, two West Coast ports the railroad serves.
