Canadian Operations Expand by Merger

Two Canadian trucking operations have bonded, with a less-than-truckload carrier acquiring a truckload firm.

LTL hauler Contract Express bought out Elmont Transportation of Breslau, Ontario, and the combined resources created a fleet comprising of 65 tractors and 135 trailers. The expected revenue for this year should be $11 million Canadian.

David O’Brien, president of Contract Express, said the purchase will enhance service and improve operations of both companies by gaining access to more freight and reducing the number of empty miles tractor-trailers travel.

Both fleets are “running flat out,” he said.
