Canadian Trucking Alliance Opposes Border Inspection Fee Increase
The Canadian Trucking Alliance said it opposes a U.S. Department of Agriculture proposal that would substantially raise the Animal Plant and Health Inspection Service fees imposed on trucks crossing the border.
In comments filed last week on the agency’s proposed rule, CTA said it “strongly objects to the way in which the APHIS program is administered, applied and funded” and that more than doubling inspection fees would be “excessive.”
In a related development, APHIS said last week that it is extending the rule’s comment period through July 24.
Martin Rojas, vice president of security and operations for American Trucking Associations, said the extension came after several industry stakeholders, including ATA, sought additional time to prepare their comments.
