Canadian Trucking Revenue Shows Gain

Statistics Canada said an estimated 3,579 for-hire trucking companies in that country had annual revenues of at least C$1 million in the first quarter of 2007.

That figure was up from 3,541 carriers in the first quarter of 2006, StatCan said.

The study also found that operating revenues for those carriers surveyed totaled C$6.9 billion, down 5.9% from a year ago, while operating expenses reached $6.5 billion, down 4.8% from the year-ago period.

For-hire trucking transportation revenue from domestic movements fell 11.2% to C$4.5 billion, while revenue from international movements rose 9.2%, primarily due to a 14% increase in out-bound shipments, the agency said.
