CARB Approves $40 Million for Clean Vehicles

The California Air Resources Board approved up to $40 million to promote the purchase of next-generation clean cars and trucks in the third year of its Air Quality Improvement Program.

The funding includes $11-16 million for vouchers for California businesses to buy hybrid and zero-emission trucks and buses, CARB said in a release Thursday.

The board said it also approved $15-21 million for consumer rebates of up to $2,500 toward the purchase of zero-emission or plug-in hybrid passenger vehicles; and $2-3 million for locomotive, truck and bus technology demonstration projects.

In its first two years, the program funded about 2,000 zero-emission passenger vehicles and over 1,000 hybrid and zero-emission trucks and buses totaling $58 million, CARB said.
