Cardinal Freight Raises Driver Pay

Cardinal Freight Carriers announced an across-the-board pay increase for drivers and owner-operators in its van division, effective July 3.

“This increase equates to a commitment of more than $1.5 million on the part of our company over the next year,” said Ron Slagle, president of the truckload and dedicated contract carrier in Concord, N.C.

In addition to the pay raise, which amounts to about 2.5% to 3% for company drivers, the company initiated a Super Driver program in which drivers who come to Cardinal with 10 or more years of experience as commercial vehicle operators may immediately qualify for full benefits, including up to three weeks of vacation.
