hicago’s Dan Ryan Expressway, which carries 300,000 vehicles a day through Chicago’s South Side, is scheduled to be narrowed to six lanes from 14, beginning April 1, for a two-year construction project truckers said would create significant delays.

“Some of our members are thinking of implementing surcharges to offset some of the costs they think they will incur over the next two years,” George Billows, executive director of the Illinois Trucking Association, told Transport Topics last week.

The two-year project will overhaul the current expressway and will include temporary and permanent ramp and express-lane closures, according to the Illinois Department of Transportation.
