Carriers Should Prepare for EPA Rules on Oil-Spill Prevention, NTTC Told

EW ORLEANS — An environmental consultant said many trucking companies were unaware that they will be hit with tightened federal oil-spill prevention requirements for aboveground fuel tanks that take effect next summer.

The rules “will hit a lot of trucking facilities and the industry hasn’t really paid a whole lot of attention to them,” William McNutt, president of the WCM Group Inc., said in an interview with Transport Topics.

McNutt spoke here at the May 18-20 annual meeting of the National Tank Truck Carriers. He said the rules would affect all sectors of the industry, not just tank truckers, because dry van carriers that have aboveground storage tanks to hold fuel would have to comply, too.
