CD&L, Dispatch Discuss Merger

No previous attempts to string together a national network of local same-day package delivery companies have been truly successful, but two more companies are ready to give it a shot.

Consolidated Delivery & Logistics, based in Clifton, N.J., and Dispatch Management Services Corp., New York, said they are discussing “a merger of equals” that would result in shareholders of each company having an equal ownership stake in a new entity.

In a joint statement issued Dec. 6, H. Steve Swink, chairman of DMS, and Albert W. Van Ness Jr., chief executive officer of CD&L, said, “By combining our two companies, we will be able to take a necessary first step in assuming a leadership role in the same-day delivery industry as well as to begin to forge a significant geographical and market position (both domestically and internationally) in order to better serve the explosive growth in e-commerce for same-day time-critical deliveries.”

The companies expect to announce the signing of a merger agreement “in the near future.”
