Celadon Expands Flatbed Business
Celadon Trucking Services is expanding its recently acquired flatbed business, Evans Trucking, with the purchase of at least 150 new tractors and 100 flatbed trailers.
The company said it is acquiring Kenworth W9000, Peterbilt 579 as well as International LoneStar tractors.
“We are looking to grow our base of owner-operators for our flatbed business,” said Nate Roberts, vice president of specialized services.
“This trio of quality tractor options, both new and used, coupled with an attractive leasing program and great pay packages, offer an outstanding opportunity for those considering a career as a lease purchase driver,” he said.
Celadon will supplement the new equipment purchases by using trailers from the Evans acquisition to pair with the new tractors.
Spokesman Joe Weigel said that the International equipment is being offered to owner-operators through a lease purchase program for all types of equipment, including flatbed if the drivers choose to run in that segment of Celadon’s business.
Celadon Group, which ranks No. 44 on the Transport Topics Top 100 list of the largest U.S. and Canadian for-hire carriers, is returning to the flatbed business after 13 years, it said, to become a full-service carrier for customers.
“Whether their needs require a temperature-controlled environment, delivery on an expedited basis or a load that requires a flatbed trailer, Celadon can now better handle our customers’ shipping and transportation requirements,” CEO Paul Will said in a statement.
