Celadon Group Inc. and its Quality Drivers subsidiary announced they have opened a new driver-training center in Henderson, Colorado, near Denver.

The training facility includes classrooms and a driver-training road course. It joins Celadon’s four other driver-training locations in Indianapolis; Gadsden, Alabama; Laredo, Texas; and Richmond, Virginia.

“An ever-present challenge for everyone in the industry is driver recruitment and driver retention,” said Paul Will, Celadon’s CEO.

“We started to address this issue when we opened the Quality Drivers School in Indianapolis,” he said in a statement. “Opening these four additional Quality Drivers training centers in the past year is the next logical steps in making sure Celadon has enough qualified drivers to fill our seats.”

Quality Drivers offers driver-training classes weekly, which encompass four weeks of basic training toward a CDL exam, a company orientation and six weeks of supervised driving. The program is free as long as recruits fulfill a contract to log 120,000 miles driving for Celadon after completing training.

Celadon said that more than 1,000 drivers so far have completed the program at the four driver-training centers.

“We believe our driver-training program is second to none,” said Scott Vogel, Quality Drivers manager. “The investment Celadon has made in these new Driver Training Centers demonstrates the company’s commitment to ensuring our drivers are provided the optimum environment for learning.”

Celadon Group is ranked No. 44 on the Transport Topics Top 100 list of U.S. and Canadian for-hire carriers.
