Celadon Group said it has graduated its first class of driver-training school candidates and that it plans to build a new, $5.7 million driver-training facility.

Quality Drivers, a driver-recruitment service, expects to train 400 to 500 new drivers while creating jobs nationwide in the first year of the program, Celadon said.

The company’s planned 61,000-square-foot facility near its Indianapolis headquarters will include dorm rooms, a cafeteria, workout room, basketball/racquetball court, Wi-Fi and a state-of-the-art driver training road course.

Celadon said it has set a tentative construction completion date for the third quarter of this year.

Indianapolis Mayor Greg Ballard and Indiana Gov. Mike Pence joined Celadon executives to formally announce the new driver-training school and highlight Celadon’s commitment to the state of Indiana.

Celadon Group is ranked No. 44 on the Transport Topics 100 listing of U.S. and Canadian for-hire carriers.
