Celadon to Post Discounts From Suppliers on the Web

Celadon Group is launching a business-to-business Web site that the company has tailored to provide small and medium-size trucking companies with the kind of volume price discounts that big carriers have enjoyed for years.

Through TruckersCo-op.com, truck owners may search for fuel, tires, parts, calling cards, insurance, trailer leasing and financing, credit cards and truck washing at lower costs than at retail prices. G.E. Capital is giving financial support to the free service, which will open for business in March.

Over the past 15 years, Celadon, among the nation’s 10 largest truckload carriers, has worked out volume discounts with motels, fueling stations, tire retailers and other businesses for its 2,500-truck fleet, said Stephen Russell, chairman of the Indianapolis-based group.

“A company with 20, 30 or even 100 trucks can’t buy at the value we do,” Russell said, noting that trucking spends $120 billion each year to keep tractors rolling — and that does not include drivers’ wages.
