CFI is honoring professional driver Jon “Smitty” Smith for surpassing 5 million miles, the company announced last month.
Smith became the first professional trucker working for the truckload fleet company to reach the 5-million-mile mark. CFI recognized the accomplishment during a special ceremony at its headquarters in Joplin, Mo.
“The amount of focus and attention, day-in and day-out, that it takes to operate a tractor-trailer, through all kinds of road conditions, weather and congestion is perhaps the most difficult challenge a driver faces,” CFI President Greg Orr said in a statement. “Jon Smith’s sustained excellence epitomizes what it truly means to be a professional in this industry.”

CFI also pointed out that he achieved the milestone while maintaining an outstanding safety record over 37 years of driving; he’s been accident-free for more than 3 million miles. Smith has been with the company since 1984.
CFI is an operating company of the transportation and logistics carrier TFI International, which ranks No. 5 on the Transport Topics Top 100 list of the largest for-hire carriers in North America.
