Cirillo: No Extension On Hours Comments

CHICAGO — The Department of Transportation is sticking to its self-imposed deadline of completing an update to the federal hours-of-service regulations for truck drivers by year’s end.

In a May 16 speech to the National Tank Truck Carriers Association, the acting deputy director of the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration said there were no plans to extend the 90-day comment period beyond the current July 31 deadline.

Transportation Secretary Rodney E. Slater “is committed to getting this rule completed by the end of this calendar year,” said Julie A. Cirillo. “I know it’s long, but read it carefully and make your comments.”

She said the department wants detailed suggestions for improving its plan. “We are committed to systematically going through every comment we receive and evaluating every one.” she said.
