Class 8 Sales Suffer Largest Monthly Decline

Sales of class 8 trucks stopped slumping in September — and fell right off the edge of the table — with a monthly total 38.6% below September 1999, the largest month-to-month drop so far this year.

September Truck Sales
Truck manufacturers sold 13,768 class 8 trucks in September, vs. 22,421 in September 1999.

On a year-to-date basis, the drop was also the largest so far in 2000, with sales of 170,057 trailing the 193,516 sold in the first nine months of 1999 by 12.1%.
