Class 8 Truck Orders Jump 37% in September, ACT Says
September orders of Class 8 trucks totaled 15,231 — up 37% from a year ago, according to a report released Thursday by ACT Research Co.
Seasonally adjusted net orders for the month were the second-highest monthly total in the past two years, ACT said in its latest “State of the Industry: Classes 5-8 Vehicles” report.
“Not only was September the second-best order month, the uptick in orders occurred in what is typically a below-average month,” said Kenny Vieth, ACT president and senior analyst.
“This level of orders is a continuation of the steady increase in demand we have seen building since early this year. Apply September’s seasonal factor, and Class 8 net orders occurred at a nearly 200,000 unit annual rate,” he said in a statement.
Medium-duty orders in Classes 5-7 declined, with net orders down 27% year-over-year, led by a decline in school bus orders.
Excluding school buses and just counting trucks, medium-duty orders were up 17% from a year-ago, ACT said.
