Combined Transport Buys Wash. Carrier

Combined Transport, Central Point, Ore., has purchased flatbed truckload carrier Sunrise Express of Vancouver, Wash., in a move that is expected to increase revenue by 20% and improve its service offerings.

Under terms of the transaction, Sunrise Express will be merged into the operations of Combined Transport. The deal brings 34 company-owned trucks and 18 owner-operators to Combined Transport’s fleet of 422 trucks and more than 500 trailers.

Mitchel K. Moore, vice president of sales for Combined Transport, said the company has been able to retain about 85% of Sunrise’s drivers, and he expects to pick up business from six major customers of Sunrise in the Portland, Ore., area.

The addition of 48-foot trailers from Sunrise’s fleet also will enable Combined Transport to haul longer loads, Moore said. The company’s current fleet consists of 45-foot flatbeds, step-deck and lowboy trailers.
