Bendix Commercial Vehicle Systems said Tuesday it has reached agreement with carrier and logistics firm Comcar Industries to put electronic stability control systems on 500 new trucks.
Comcar is adding 500 International ProStar trucks to its fleet, all of which will be equipped with Bendix’s ESP, or electronic stability program, and collision-mitigation technology.
Bendix said that full-stability technology tends to be more effective than roll-only systems and that its ESP product is a full-stability ESC system.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration published a notice of proposed rulemaking last year that, if enacted, would require full-stability technology such as ESC on truck tractors.
The “new technologies help ensure our drivers’ safety and the safety of everyone on the highways,” said Jim Gourley, Comcar’s vice president of safety and risk management. “An added benefit is the safety [return on investment] they provide.”
Comcar, Auburndale, Fla., has a fleet of about 2,000 tractors and is ranked No. 59 on the Transport Topics 100 listing of U.S. and Canadian for-hire carriers. It encompasses five trucking company subsidiaries and six logistics units.
