Companies Unveil GPS Enhancements

Several companies recently announced new enhancements to their GPS products.

InthincTechnology Solutions said it released a new version of smartZones, its GPS product for fleet managers.

Inthinc said the update allows customized attributes to be set for certain regions, such as speed limits, idle-time alerts and aggressive driving warnings.

Drivers may also receive verbal alerts for excessive idling or upon entering or exiting a caution zone or hazardous area, the company said.

ALK Technologies and Apacheta Corp. announced a partnership.

Apacheta said it will resell ALK’s CoPilot Live Professional and CoPilot Truck Professional products. The move embeds CoPilot in Apacheta’s RouteACE, TransportACE, MerchandiserACE and ServiceACE applications.

ALK also said it has a partnership with International Telematics Corp. in which the latter will resell ALK’s CoPilot Truck Professional navigation software in North America.

Elsewhere, Mobileye NV, the Netherlands, said it has introduced its 5-Series GPS product.

The company said its newest offering includes a smart camera and a microprocessor that alerts drivers to lane departures, imminent collisions and bicyclists and motorcyclists on the road.

The product can read speed limit signs, controls high-beams and alerts drivers of possible rear-end collisions, Mobileye said.

The company said its forward collision warning alerts a driver up to 2.7 seconds before a potential collision, allowing enough time to react.
