Component-Makers Meritor, Arvin To Merge in Multibillion-Dollar Deal

Meritor Automotive and Arvin Industries will join in a $7.5 - billion “merger of equals,” combining Meritor’s penetration of heavy-vehicle markets with Arvin’s strength in the light-vehicle business, spokesmen for both companies said April 6.

Meritor Automotive, spun off from Rockwell International in October 1997, supplies a wide range of components for both heavy- and light-duty trucks as well as trailers, specialty equipment and other vehicles.

Arvin Industries, an 80-year-old firm with its main offices in Columbus, Ind., is a global manufacturer of automotive emission, filter and exhaust systems.
