Con-way Truckload said Monday it plans to expand its regional service with increased operations in 10 U.S. states starting in January.

The regional covers short-haul truckload shipments of less than 600 miles, including cartage service for truckload shipments of less than 100 miles. In the future, it will offer drayage services, the company said in a statement.

The expansion will take place in Missouri, Kansas, Iowa, Nebraska, Wisconsin, Minnesota, Illinois, Indiana, Ohio and Kentucky.

The company will add 300 trucks to its fleet by the end of 2010 to accommodate the additional business, to add to the 300 drivers operating regionally across 11 states and said it plans to continue to add to its footprint in currently serviced regions.

Con-way Truckload began offering regional service in 2008 in a successful 18-month pilot program. Its goal is to have at least 1,000 trucks dedicated to nationwide regional service by 2011.

The company is a unit of Con-way Inc., ranked No. 6 on the Transport Topics 100 listing of U.S. and Canadian for-hire carriers.
