Construction Spending Increases 0.8%

Construction spending rose in April by the largest amount since August, the Commerce Department said Monday.

The 0.8% increase followed a revised 0.4% increase in March.

Residential construction gained 0.6%. Non-residential construction increased 0.8%, and was up 2.5% compared with a year earlier.

Public construction fell 0.6%.

Construction spending can boost demand for trucking services because spending increases the number of shipments of goods and building materials.
