Consumer Confidence Rises in September

U.S. consumer confidence rose slightly this month, according to the University of Michigan’s latest consumer sentiment index, released Friday.

The preliminary index for September rose to 83.8 from 83.4 in August, which had been the lowest in a year.
 
Economists had forecast a reading of 83.5 reading, Bloomberg reported.

The expectations index, which gauges future consumer spending, rose to 74.4 from 73.7 in August.
