Consumer confidence was unchanged this month, according to the Thomson Reuters/University of Michigan consumer sentiment index released Feb. 14.

The month’s preliminary index held at a reading of 81.2. A median estimate by economists called for a decline to 80.2.

“Consumers remain fairly upbeat about their economic outlook,” Millan Mulraine, deputy head of U.S. research and strategy at TD Securities USA, told Bloomberg News. “It could certainly point to a meaningful rebound in activity in the coming months.”

The index of expectation six months from now rose to 73 from 71.2 last month, Bloomberg reported.
