Container traffic at the Port of Los Angeles increased in August, but it dropped at the Port of Long Beach from a year ago.

The Port of L.A. announced that import container volume rose 6.7% from a year ago, the strongest month since August 2010, but volume at Long Beach declined 9.1%.

L.A.’s total volume of 20-foot-equivalent units increased to 757,702 from the same time last year. Total TEUs at Long Beach dropped to 573,083.

Container imports at Los Angeles rose 7.8% in August to 355,682 TEUs. Exports increased 6.16% to 168,248 units.

At Long Beach, imports declined 8.2% to 300,851, and exports declined 17.7%, to 126,856 units.

August 2013 was very busy, according to Long Beach, and started off the typical August through October “peak season,” and that peak season may have occurred earlier this year.
