Continental launched a new longhaul drive tire for the U.S. market.
The HDL 3 EP will be available in the most common longhaul sizes. Initially, size 295/75R22.5 in load range G will be available in the replacement market. Additional sizes will be available to both the replacement and original equipment markets by the first quarter of 2025, Continental said.
Germany-based Continental said the HDL 3 EP combines high-structure carbon black and silica technology, delivering a mix of improved rolling resistance and durability.
With a polymer matrix-bound silica compound, the tire achieves as much as a 10% improvement in rolling resistance compared with its predecessor, it said.
The tire’s closed shoulder design enhances mileage and rolling resistance, while its optimized footprint ensures even wear, the company said. The groove geometry reduces stone retention, and the tire offers up to 15% improved cut and chip resistance, further extending its life span, it added.

“The Conti HDL 3 EP was purposefully designed with a fleet’s needs in mind — from being built on 3G Casing for maximum retreadability, to its improved rolling resistance and even wear,” said Shaun Uys, head of Continental’s truck tire replacement business in the U.S. “This premium longhaul tire was designed to help fleets achieve their lowest overall driving cost.”
The tires are SmartWay verified for Class 8 longhaul tractor-trailers.

The tire is built on Continental 3G Casing that has a 240-245 mm retread width.
Continental said additional uptime can be obtained if the company’s ContiConnect Live digital tire monitoring system is engaged.
ContiConnect Live was launched in the U.S. in February 2023 at that year’s Technology & Maintenance Council Annual Meeting and Transportation Technology Exhibition.
A year later, ContiConnect Lite, an app for drivers’ mobile phones, was launched. In September, Continental unveiled updates for ContiConnect Lite and ContiConnect Pro at the IAA Transportation 2024 conference.
Continental’s existing U.S. original equipment longhaul truck tire portfolio comprises three steer/all-position options, four drive tires and four trailer alternatives. For retreading, the company offers four drive position alternatives and three trailer options, according to its website.
