Contrans to Consolidate Some Van, Flatbed Operations

Canadian transportation firm Contrans Income Fund said it plans to consolidate certain operations of its dry van and flatbed businesses in eastern Canada.

The company said it will transfer the operational and administrative functions of its Brookville Carriers Van subsidiary in Saint John, New Brunswick and Milton, Ontario to the offices of its Laidlaw Carriers Van subsidiary in Guelph, Ontario.

In addition, Contrans said that all administrative functions for its East Coast Flatbed business will be cen-tralized at the fund’s General Freight Carriers facility in Saint John, New Brunswick. However, existing operational groups in the flatbed unit will continue to do business under their respective brand names, Contrans added.

The changes are slated to go into effect in April.

Contrans ranks No. 68 on the Transport Topics 100 list of the largest U.S. and Canadian for-hire carriers.
