Covenant Transport Offers Hazmat Driver Pay Guarantee
Covenant Transport announced a new compensation package for experienced hazardous material team drivers that guarantees weekly pay of $1,000.
The change that began Nov. 1, affects more than 1,000 drivers, said a statement by the Chattanooga, Tennessee-based company. Covenant Transportation Group stands No. 43 on the Transport Topics Top 100 list of for-hire carriers in the United States and Canada.
“It is a huge step for a large carrier,” Rob Hatchett, vice president of recruiting, said of the approach has been in development for a year. "We are looking forward to paying these additional funds because it shows our drivers we truly want to maximize their income.".
The statement said guaranteed minimum pay offers consistency for drivers who typically can earn up to 30% more per week as well as pay guarantees if severe weather or other road disruptions occur.
The compensation package also enhances home time earned and a company-paid hazardous material endorsement. Team drivers with less than a year of hazmat experience have an $850 weekly guarantee.
