Crouse Cartage Co. announced plans to eliminate its freight terminal and maintenance operations in Carroll, Iowa, and close an agency terminal in Fremont, Neb. Crouse is a subsidiary of TransFinancial Holdings in Lenexa, Kan.

The moves were approved by the Teamsters union and take effect April 5.

Approximately 40 employees will be affected by the closings and all will be offered transfers to other terminals, the company said.

"We can improve our service and increase the cost effectiveness of our operations by consolidating these functions into our major markets and principal traffic lanes," Crouse Chairman Dave Taggart said.

Crouse is a regional less-than-truckload carrier serving 15 states. It also operates a special commodities division that provides refrigerated truckload and flatbed service throughout the country.
